TriCeram: Ceramide Eczema Creams
I mentioned in the EA article that I had tried an eczema ceramide cream so I thought I should follow that up with a review. Ceramide is a skin care ingredient that is said to improve eczema by restoring the skins barrier. For this reason I consider pretty much all ceramide eczema creams to be barrier creams (except for the EA cream which is a skin-firming cream, not for eczema). TriCeram, the one I tried certainly had the consistency of of other barrier creams, which is firm and viscous, forming a physical barrier on the skin. I actually discovered the TriCeram cream from an article on About.com here:
http://dermatology.about.com/od/skincareproducts/tp/Ceramide_moisturizers.htm
The article discusses ceramide as a skin care ingredient and also
lists a few different brands of ceramide creams. The author also actually researched whether data was available to show that each cream worked on eczema or not. TriCeram was one of the creams that had data, although it was expensive at the time to try, it was a large tube and it could be used sparingly so it lasted some time for me. It was a very thick, viscous cream, that was almost slightly transparent like a gel would be. The firmness of the cream meant that it spread on the skin best if it was warmed up beforehand by rubbing your fingers together. Using it formed a protective barrier on the skin, which eased the itching as no little particles could reach the raw skin. Not itching means the skin heals faster, and the inflammation went down because my skin was not dried out during the day. I didn’t need to reapply this very much which was great. One application in the morning on either face or body was sufficient until the evening. I need to reapply most other emollient creams I’ve use throughout the day if my eczema is dry. This however is more of a barrier repair cream than just an emollient in any case. When I used it on my face I only applied it into the eczema affected or dry areas like the cheeks and traced my fingers across the rest of my face just to lightly moisturize them. I do believe that this ceramide cream helped minimize the unpleasantness of eczema when I used it (both on face & body) and helped it to heal. ****
I can’t seem to be able to find the online store I initially bought this from (sorry) and it’s not available on Amazon so the picture links to the about.com article on ceramide .
