Clarins: Beauty Flash Balm
Well, surprise, surprise; a product claiming to be a face lift substitute. Of course no savvy consumer really believes these promises, but even so, the appeal these comparisons can generate is large. Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is not a new product, it has been around for a while and is quite popular too. Of course it doesn’t give you the same results as a face-lift but I have spoken to numerous women who love it, aged in their late 30′s and above so I thought I’d give it a go. Beauty Flash Balm is meant to tighten the skin and provide a ‘lifting’ and firming effect. Although I still have relatively young skin but days when I am tired or run down it can look a little old, so i have been using this to see if it really does have any effect on lifting and brightening my complexion. In all honesty, I really can’t say. It doesn’t produce any discernible tightening of the skin or really reduce the appearance of fine lines above the moisturizing effect, which pretty much any quality moisturizer will do for you. In terms of hydration, it probably isn’t sufficient for particularly dry skins, but it does provide an adequate amount for normal or even oilier complexions. It has the consistency of a moisturizing cream, not a balm, and it absorbs well into the skin. There is no oily residue like some balms can leave. The smell is lovely, like most Clarins products, and last; it is very tolerable on sensitive and irritation prone skin; even straight after cleansing. I usually need a heavier or more hydrating cream for my dry skin but I have been enjoying this product. It does leave the skin nicely conditioned and I really have no complaints other than it may not be optimal for particularly dry skins. As for the face-lift replacement claims, I think we can put those aside, it is not going to give you comparable effects. To be fair however there is nothing really for this product to ‘lift’ on me so I’d be keen to hear from people with older skin – does this work for you?
You can purchase Clarins Beauty Flash Balm in Amazon for around $38 US.

Hi Amanda,
I’m back after not having visited for a while (sorry!). Coincidentally, I’ve been trying to use up this product so as to free up some space on my bathroom counter. I bought this because it regularly appears on beauty editors’ must-have lists, but it’s never done anything for me. Granted, there’s nothing to lift on me – same as you – but my skin certainly doesn’t look that much more radiant either. There’s a cheaper alternative that’s sold by Superdrug here in the UK (Superdrug Natural High Instant Radiance Balm) which is considerably cheaper at £3.99. I haven’t quite noticed any effects on my skin, but beauty magazines, etc. say it works almost as well as Clarins.
