About
The Blog: Skin Savers is a review blog for products that are suitable for sensitive skin. If I find a product that does my skin wonders I want to let others know about it too. The same goes if I find a product that is really bad for my sensitive skin.
Finding the right skin care products and routine can be hard, especially when you are new to it all and just don’t know what is available out there for your skin type. You can check what kind of skin you have on the skin care basics page. Most people don’t go through their lives with only one skin type. It can change due to lots of reasons especially if you’re a woman as your hormones fluctuate, not only monthly but with age and other life events (like pregnancy and menopause).
Knowing the right kind of products to use and when can help keep your skin healthy and looking it’s best. This knowledge is often obtained through trial and error, but you can also get a good idea of what’s right for you from other peoples experiences, especially from people who have similar needs as you. If you’ve ever had sensitive, dry, combination, acne or eczema prone skin you are in the right place. The Skin Savers blog contains reviews of skin care products that cater to these skin conditions. Ten years a go I would have loved to have had a resource like Skin Savers to help me chose skin care. I like to imagine that someone with the same kind of skin problems as I’ve had will find this website and it will make their life just a little bit easier.
About me: My name is Amanda, and I have tried *lots* of products over the years (at least 10 years!) . I thought “why waste all this experience” so I decided to start up Skin Savers to let others know about my experience with different skin care products. I have dry and sensitive skin and am always on a search for cosmetics that will improve the skins quality and reduce sensitivity. I have also suffered facial eczema in the past and know a great deal about how to care for eczema inflicted skin. Visit my eczema information page for tips on dealing with (and hopefully curing) eczema flare-ups.
Shopping: In my searching I have developed an affinity with various french cosmetics, especially ones that target eczema and sensitive skin such as Avene, A-derma, Uriage, Bioderma, La Roche Posay and Nuxe among others. These products tend to be fairly affordable in France. Unfortunately some of these brands are much more expensive in the US, UK and Australia. Rather than go through a local supplier I prefer to order online where the prices are the same as in the french stores. The only draw back is the expensive shipping rates, but even then you can come off saving dollars. My absolute favorite webstore from Paris is www.parasend.com. I’ve even been to the actual store in Paris (It’s in the 1st district in the city center) and it is your standard pharmacy/cosmetics store with all the products I love. Give them a try! If you’re lucky enough to actually be in paris visit the Pharmacie Bader on Bld St Michel for great prices on a good range of skin care brands.
Depending on the exchange rate I also like to buy from Amazon. If the euro is too much, but the US dollar is affordable it can work out even cheaper for me. Most of the products I review are available on Amazon for amazingly cheap prices. As one of their associates I have gone through and found the best deals available on Amazon for most of the products reviewed on Skin Savers. You can find links to these deals in each post. Recently, I have also been discovering lots of natural and organic Australian brands that are doing my skin wonders. Most of the time, these too are available online and are generally much cheaper to buy for locals, and perhaps especially if you’re in the US, Europe or UK and the exchange rate for the Australian dollar is favorable to you.
Suggestions: I am always on the look out for new wonderful skin care products to try. Although I’ve discovered some beauties there is always the chance that there is something better out there. If you think you’ve found a ‘holy grail’ product for sensitive or eczema prone skin, please leave it in the form on the contact page.
Enjoy: I hope you enjoy the Skin Savers blog and find it helpful. I hope it helps save your sensitive skin! Please subscribe to my RSS feed, link to me and/or add me to your wordpress blogroll – I am happy to exchange banners & links with like minded bloggers on the search for the perfect skin care regime.
